I ventured out here to check out the trail system on my mountain bike. I was told they allow bikes and hadn't been out to ride them. So I decided I'd spend a few hours and play around.
I looked online for a trail map but was not able to find one. I called the campground and was informed that they have copies inside. So I stopped at the info center and grabbed a trail map and decided to do the Possum Ridge trail, ~6 miles.
It was an adventure so and sorta fun to try out a new area. There are other trails in the park though so maybe those are a little less traveled. There's a ton of potential there and would be awesome if they made some mountain bike specific trails. Some really beautiful areas back there.
Now for the actual trail status, these trails were extremely rutted up with horse tracks. It made it near impossible to ride some parts. Rain and water sit inside these tracks and holes made by the horses and you just slide all over the place. There were a few good spots that made for some decent riding but I'd say only 40% of the ride was actually enjoyable.
Great sites with lots of room! Lake is not far along with boat ramp. In the middle of Bourbon Country, it's a great base camp. Bathrooms could be cleaner, but passible.
Loved the camp sites. Clean restrooms and showers. The RV pads are not completely level so we have to heighten one side. The campsites are not near the water, and the lake water seems low. We did not see any place to swim, just fish. We do not have horses but there are trails and stables to ride your horses. We did not see any place to rent them though.
I give 3 starts because the trail wasn't really marked well and found myself off the main trail and going down some sorta trail that wasn't even on the map. I managed to use google maps and figure out about where I was and managed to get back on the right trail. After getting back on track I found the trails were marked better as I went around.
We have camped at Taylorsville Lake Campground many times, camping on site #21. The site as a slight downhill slope, but nothing that requires a lot of leveling. On the drivers side there is a small stand of trees that gives you the feel of seclusion. On the curb/passenger side a nice large grassy area. Lots of room between sites. We camp in 43' fifth wheel and there is plenty of room for both camper and tow vehicle. The times I have visited the bathhouse, it was very clean. Overall I would give this Campground the highest possible rating. No complaints at all.
Enjoyed the one night we camped there. Took the kids to the park. The equipment was in good shape. The ground around the equipment hasn't seen maintenance in some time. The horseshoe pits are unusable due to disrepair. Campsites are good. We would definitely camp there again. Have to keep in mind the lack of funding from state.
